Rachel

Levi and I met in the old shop class for lunch again. With Andrew glaring daggers at Levi for being near me, I thought it best to keep out of sight. I hoped that it would give Andrew some time to get used to the idea it was over between us.

Levi and I shared a sandwich I had bought from the bodega at the corner before school. We spoke in hushed voices to avoid people finding us. He never pressured me into anything. It was so easy being around him. We sat there and talked, both of us content to be in each other’s company without the pressure of having other people around, mainly Andrew. And the prying eyes of the cheerleaders, Amber being one of them.

His lips moved against mine ever so gently, his tongue pushing past my lips, exploring the depths of my mouth. My hands found their way into his hair, tugging softly as I kissed him back with a fervor that I had never felt before.

Andrew was never able to make me feel this passion, and this realization made me wonder why I had bothered to stay with him for so long.

My body was heating up as if I was being consumed by the fire of this new and unexpected emotion; I wanted more. I tugged his hair a little tighter, urging him to pull me closer. But instead, he pulled away. A sudden wave of disappointment and sadness washed over me.

He searched my eyes before he spoke. “Rachel,” he said, drawing small circles on my back. He stood, making me stand too. He cupped my neck and kept his eyes fixed on mine. His lips parted in a half smile as he leaned
